It is always a pleasure to have the opportunity to paint figures for others. The most recent chance came in two parts: some Warlord French infantry and then a box of Perry French cuirassiers. Here is how they turned out.

HMGS PSW Fall Convention

I made my way out to Cal State Fullerton for the HMGS PSW Fall convention. It was held in the student union building at CUSF and was a very nice venue indeed. I was there Saturday morning and the turn out was good. I am sure this was helped by the fact that the Orange County Miniature Modeling Show was being held in the same place at the same time.

I didn't play in any games. They were mostly underway when I got there, but I got to chat with some guys and take a few pictures. I am glad I went and it was good to see a healthy group of gamers assembled.

These are pictures of a Napoleonic Black Powder game; Aspern-Essling I believe.  Nicely painted figures, and lots of them.

These are shots of a Gettysburg game in 5mm.  That scale allows recreating huge battles, but it is a bit too small for my tastes. They were having fun, regardless.

The modeling show had some nice displays, but only a couple entrants in the units competition. It made me wish I had brought a couple of my units to set out for viewing. I could have become an award winning painter by default!

I am trying to downsize a bit, and so I am going to offer up my collection of Romans and Celts up for sale. Overall, there are 746 infantry figures, 124 cavalry, 4 chariots, 6 scorpions and 14 general stands. These are 15mm Old Glory figures. I also have a Celtic village and 6 Roman tents as part of the package. Warlord Games Household Cavalry

I painted up a box of the Warlord Games Household cavalry over the weekend. These are very similar to the heavy dragoons, the difference being you only get the helmeted heads in this box. Helmets come with and without plumes. The assemble easily and you can get a nice variety of poses using the different arm options available. A note of caution, be careful how you position some of the arm poses to make sure they will fit on the horse when you get to that point. On some of the options, if you position the arm too low you will have problems getting it to sit correctly on the horse. I learned this the hard way.

Overall, I think it was a good value.  It is nice to have another option for my British cavalry.

15mm Old Glory Napoleonic Austrians

One of the most entertaining aspects of this hobby for me is to  get an idea, formulate a plan, and then put forth the time and resources to bring the idea into reality. I have just finished one such project, a large contingent of Austrians based for General de Brigade, a scale of 1:20.

Warlord Games British Dragoons

I purchased three boxes of Warlord Games' British Dragoons in order to build up two 18 man cavalry units. I opted for the heads with bicorns as my armies are primarily for the war in Spain.

Each box contains six identical sprues plus a bag containing three metal figures.  The metal figures are, at least to me, noticeably larger than their plastic counterparts. The detail is fairly good, but not nearly as good as the Perry plastic cavalry figures. I also wish there was more variety in the poses of the horses; there are only two.

The box allows you to build them up as the Scots Greys, later dragoons with helmets, or, as in my case, early dragoons with bicorns.  On a scale from 1-10, I'd rate them about an 8. The biggest plus is that it fills a gap in available plastics that hasn't been covered to this point.
