HMGS Convention in Southern California

Yesterday a couple of my former students and I put on a Hail Caesar game at our local HMGS convention. Overall, I thought the attendance was good. There were several excellent games being put on with excellent figures and terrain. There were a couple of large tournaments taking place which took up most of the gaming space. No one joined our game, but several came by and took photos and/or observed. We got many compliments which was gratifying. It was a pleasure to have Chris and Max with me. Our game turned out to be quite interesting. The Romans held a ridge. The elite Carthaginian division under Hanibal attacked the center and destroyed by the best Roman legion on the ridge. However, the legion took some significant causalties in the process. A division of Gauls following up was able to capture the ridge. The Roman flanks held fairly well against Spanish and Carthaginian attacks. A fourth Roman legion approached to reinforce the center. In spectacularly bad luck, the Roman general issued orders to the whole legion. He rolled a "12" which is a blunder in this game. He rolled again for the result. It was a one, the worst possible outcome. The entire legion turned around and marched off the table. Hanibal had snatched a victory out of the jaws of defeat. Here are some pictures of our game.
Here are some shots of other games we liked.
It was a good day. Thanks Max and Chris for joining me.
